You certainly don’t need to seal the canvas, but I find that it gives the canvas a more finished look, and it also protects the painting over time. I prefer Krylon brand finishing spray in Satin (I usually get this at Michael’s). Use a finishing spray to seal the canvas by spaying it evenly over the canvas including the sides. This is why my stickers were a bunch of different colors! You can reuse the letter stickers for a similar project, so stick them right back on the original sheet. If you’re having trouble removing the stickers, use a pair of old tweezers. Once the canvas is fully dry (about 1 hour), peel off the stickers. I only painted the top of the canvas so that the edges of the canvas are gold, but you can paint over the sides if you prefer. For this sample, I used this flat white color. Spray paint the canvas over the letter stickers with your background color. Be sure that your stickers say “non-permanent” or “repositionable.” Stick the letters on the canvas. I used these Vinyl letter stickers that I found on Amazon. Now it’s time to place the letter stickers on the canvas. Since my quote is 3 lines, I used 3 inch border on the top and bottom and placed the stickers one inch apart. Measure the canvas to ensure that the quote will be straight and centered.įor my sample, I used 2 inch letters on an 11 x14 inch canvas. Plan out how you will lay out your quote. Bleach is a powerful oxidizer and can, in many instances, sanitize surfaces of certain types of bacteria but when you are faced with a wall covered in mold, bleach is NOT the product to use. This is one of the most widely publicized “urban legends”. confirms the recommendation against bleach for mold removal on porous surfaces by saying The CDC confirms that by recommending bleach specifically in the case of “hard surfaces”, but unprimed canvas or the back of a primed one is a porous surface. Using bleach on these materials will kill the mold above the surface but the roots within the material will remain and the mold will soon return. Bleach cannot penetrate into porous materials and so it does not come into contact with mold growing beneath the surface of materials such as wood and drywall. Unfortunately, however, using bleach is only effective if the mold is growing on non-porous materials such as tiles, bathtubs, glass and countertops. The ionic structure of bleach prevents Chlorine from penetrating into porous materials such as drywall and wood-it just stays on the outside surface, whereas mold has enzyme roots growing inside the porous construction materials-however, the water content penetrates and actually FEEDS the mold-this is why a few days later you will notice darker, more concentrated mold growing (faster) on the bleached area. Water is one of the main contributors of the growth of harmful bacteria and mold. I don’t know how well this applies to canvas, which is a porous surface, but I’ve recently been made aware that the use of bleach to fight mold on a porous surface is exactly what you shouldn’t do after watching an entire show about mold on tv.īleach itself is 99% water.
